Dr. David Yonggi Cho Passes On To Eternity – Life Biography

Dr. David Yonggi Cho was born on February 14, 1936, in South Kyŏngsang province, Korea. He was a Korean religious leader and Christian evangelist who founded the Yoido Full Gospel Church (YFGC) in Seoul in 1958. He presided over the megachurch until 2008.

Dr. Cho was raised a Buddhist. When he was 17 years of age, he became gravely ill from tuberculosis. He subsequently recovered, and, attributing his healing to the God of Christianity, he became a Christian. In 1958 he graduated from Seoul’s Full Gospel Theological Seminary currently by name Hansei University, which was operated by the Pentecostal Assemblies of God denomination.

He opened a tent church on a hillside outside the city. At that time many Koreans were homeless and jobless which served as a consequence of the Korean War. Dr. Cho’s hopeful message and reports that he had performed faith healings attracted many of the unfortunate to his church and enabled them to grow into the knowledge of God our Creator.

As the Yoido Full Gospel congregation grew, Dr. Cho moved the church first to downtown Seoul and then in 1973 to a new sanctuary on the city’s Yoido Island. Dr. Cho fluently, in English and Japanese, preached the Gospel in sermons that were broadcast on television and radio in South Korea, the United States, Japan, and other parts of the world. By 1981 Yoido Full Gospel Church included about 200,000 people, and by the first decade of the 21st century, it claimed some 1,000,000 worshippers and had sent more than 700 missionaries to hundreds of churches throughout the world.

Dr. Cho served as chairman of the World Assemblies of God Fellowship between 1992 and 2000.

He wrote a lot of best-selling Christian inspirational books such as 4th Dimensional living in a 3 Dimensional World (1979), Successful Home Cell Groups, Unleashing The Power of FAITH, Prayer the bring Revival, The Apocalyptic Prophecy, Spirit-Led Reader, Suffering- Why me? and many others.

His wife, Mrs. Kim Seong-hye died earlier on the 11th of February 2021 at the Age 78.
