BREAKING NEWS: High Court Grants Injunction Against MDC’s Common Registration Examination

The High Court of Justice, Human Rights Division 2, in Accra, has granted an interim injunction restraining the Medical and Dental Council (MDC), the Attorney General, and the Ministry of Health from enforcing the Stage 1 Common Registration Examination (CRE) as a mandatory requirement for the provisional registration of 792 newly trained medical doctors.

The ruling, presided over by His Lordship Justice Nana Brew, prevents the conduct of the examination, which was scheduled for Thursday, October 22, 2026, pending further proceedings in the substantive case and the application for an interlocutory injunction.

The legal action was brought by the Federation of Ghana Medical Students’ Associations (FGMSA) and the 792 affected medical students from various medical schools across Ghana, challenging the requirement to sit and pass the examination before obtaining provisional registration and commencing their housemanship.

The students were represented by lawyer Rachel Otu Amponsah and Lawyer Belinda Narkey Quaynor, holding brief for Hon. Dr. Francis-Xavier Sosu Esq,. Member of Parliament for Madina.

The injunction means the proposed examination cannot proceed as scheduled while the matter remains before the court.

Further developments are expected as the court proceeds to hear the substantive case.
