The Acting Chief Executive of the Volta River Authority (VRA), Ing. Edward Ekow Obeng Kenzo, has urged staff to work with renewed dedication and a private sector driven mindset to enhance electricity production and accelerate Ghana’s national development.

During his recent working visits to various VRA workstations including Tema, Aboadze, Akosombo, and Akuse, Obeng Kenzo engaged unionized and senior staff in open discussions to understand their concerns, solicit ideas, and set the foundation for a strategic vision aimed at improving VRA’s operations.

He emphasized the importance of innovation, teamwork, and efficiency in driving the authority’s profitability and strengthening its role in Ghana’s energy sector. He called on employees to take ownership of their work, uphold principles of safety, respect, integrity, and teamwork, and contribute to the organization’s long-term success.

A Call for a Private Sector Approach

Obeng Kenzo underscored the need for a private sector driven work ethos, stressing that while VRA is a public entity, adopting business-minded strategies would enhance innovation, generate more revenue, and expand operations, particularly in green energy production.

He assured employees that staff welfare and benefits would remain a top priority to boost morale and increase productivity. Additionally, he urged staff to protect VRA’s prestigious brand, which has gained both local and international recognition over the past 60 years.

Staff members expressed excitement about his appointment, seeing it as a sign of continuity and leadership growth from within the organization. They pledged their support in achieving VRA’s shared ambition of powering economies and delivering excellence in a safe working environment.

Since his appointment, Ing. Obeng Kenzo has received congratulations from several professional bodies and institutions, including the Public Sector Workers Union of TUC, the Society of Volta River Authority Engineers (SOVRAE), the College of Engineering at KNUST, the Project Management Institute, and the Chartered Institute of Supply Chain Management.
