The National Identification Authority (NIA) has announced that the initial issuance of the Ghana Card at its 276 operational district offices across the country remains entirely free of charge. This initiative ensures that all eligible citizens can obtain their national identification card without financial barriers.

However, the NIA has introduced fees for first-time card issuance at its Premium Centres, following approval by the Parliament of Ghana in 2023. This measure is designed to streamline the registration process while maintaining transparency regarding service charges.

According to the NIA, the Ghana Card serves as a vital identification document, facilitating access to essential government services, financial transactions, and other critical activities. Additionally, it plays a key role in enhancing national security and promoting digital inclusion.

As part of the newly introduced fee structure at Premium Centres:

The NIA encourages Ghanaians to take advantage of the free issuance at district offices to avoid unnecessary expenses. Citizens are advised to visit the nearest district office for their Ghana Card registration and related services.
