The Madina Job Center (MJC) has taken a significant step towards equipping youth in Madina and beyond with practical skills by organizing an orientation session for its 2025 prospective vocational apprenticeship beneficiaries. This event, held in Madina on the 8th of February, served as an introduction to the various opportunities available to participants and set the stage for their journey toward sustainable employment and economic empowerment.
The beneficiaries were introduced to the different vocational fields they would specialize in, including tailoring, barbering, hairdressing, shoemaking, makeup and nail artistry, and baking.
In her welcome address, Mrs. Priscilla Naa Aklerh Hanu Plange, the CEO of the Madina Job Center, emphasized the importance of vocational skills in today’s economy. She stated, “Our goal is to bridge the skills gap and empower young people with the practical knowledge they need to be self-sufficient. Through this apprenticeship program, we aim to create pathways for decent work and entrepreneurship.”
During the session, the coordinating team of the Madina Job Center Mr. Marshall Bobobee, Mrs. Mercy Karley Mensah, Mr. Christian Ahlija, Mr Amadu Tahiru, Dr. Augustine Kwegyir-Aggrey, and Mr. Dela Akafia, outlined the structure of the apprenticeship program, which includes hands-on training with experienced mentors, periodic assessments, and entrepreneurial support to ensure that beneficiaries can either secure employment or start their businesses. The attendees also received guidance on professional ethics, discipline, and the commitment required to succeed in their respective fields.
One of the event’s highlights was a testimony from a past beneficiary, Miriam, who shared how the program transformed their life. “I started with zero experience in fashion designing, but through the training and mentorship I received, I am now an NVTI Certified fashion designer on a work-and-pay contract. This opportunity is life-changing, and I encourage all beneficiaries to remain focused,” she said.
The apprenticeship initiative aligns with the broader mission of the Madina Job Center to train and employ over 1,000 youth through vocational and digital skills programs annually. It also supports the center’s vision of empowering women entrepreneurs and fostering startup development under the Adwumawura Programme.
As the orientation concluded, beneficiaries expressed enthusiasm and a renewed sense of purpose. Many were eager to begin their training, confident that the skills they acquire will open doors to financial independence and stability.

The apprenticeship program is not just about learning a trade, it is also about shaping their futures and building a resilient workforce in the Madina Constituency and beyond.
