In a bold step towards enhancing transparency and accountability in public office, President John Dramani Mahama has officially declared his assets to the Auditor-General.
The declaration was made public on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, at Jubilee House, in accordance with Ghana’s Public Office Holders (Declaration of Assets and Disqualification) Act and Article 286 of the 1992 Constitution. The disclosure provides a comprehensive record of Mahama’s financial holdings, properties, and other assets.
Addressing the move, President Mahama underscored the significance of openness in governance, stating:
“In the past, I would privately submit these forms to the Auditor-General in fulfillment of my statutory obligation. However, I have now chosen to do so publicly to promote transparency in the asset declaration process. I strongly believe that while punishing corruption is necessary, preventing it is even more effective. If properly structured and enforced, asset declaration can be a powerful tool in the fight against corruption.”

The declaration was received by Auditor-General Johnson Akuamoah Asiedu. In line with his commitment to good governance, a key promise in his 2024 campaign, President Mahama has directed all government appointees to declare their assets by March 31, 2025, warning that failure to comply could result in dismissal from office.
This decisive action reinforces President Mahama’s stance on accountability and serves as a call to duty for public officeholders across the country.
