In a remarkable demonstration of his commitment to education, H.E. Gabriel Tanko Kwamigah-Atokple, Member of the Council of State and Founder of the Tanko Foundation, has donated GHS 100,000 to The Ketu North Scholar Initiative (Edem Agbana Scholarship Scheme). This significant contribution was announced at the initiative’s official launch at the Weta Senior High School (Weta SHS) in the Ketu North Municipality, where he served as the Guest of Honour.

Beyond this generous gesture, H.E. Kwamigah-Atokple further extended his support by donating $1,000 to Jennifer Akorfa Amegble, a third-year student at the University for Development Studies (UDS), Tamale, pursuing a Doctor of Medical Laboratory Science. This additional funding will aid her academic journey, reinforcing his dedication to advancing education and inclusive development.

Speaking at the event, H.E. Kwamigah-Atokple emphasized the transformative power of education in breaking the cycle of poverty and unlocking opportunities for young people. “This initiative is not just about financial aid; it is a commitment to ensuring that no student is left behind due to financial constraints. Education is the key to unlocking the potential of our youth and securing a brighter future for Ketu North,” he stated.
His donation will significantly enhance the scholarship fund, which has already provided full sponsorship for 22 Persons Living with Disabilities (PWDs) and financial support for over 200 students. He also commended Hon. Edem Agbana for spearheading this impactful initiative and encouraged other stakeholders to contribute toward its sustainability and expansion.

The scholarship initiative aligns with H.E. John Dramani Mahama’s vision of free tertiary education for PWDs and the “No Fees Stress” policy for first-year students. Additionally, it supports Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4, which advocates for inclusive and equitable quality education for all. This generous act by H.E. Gabriel Tanko Kwamigah-Atokple and Hon. Edem Agbana sets an inspiring precedent, reinforcing the importance of collaborative efforts in ensuring that every student, regardless of financial background, has access to quality education.
