The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has officially removed former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta from its wanted persons list following confirmation from his legal team that he will return to Ghana in May 2025.

The OSP declared Ofori-Atta wanted on February 12, 2025, in connection with an ongoing investigation into alleged corruption-related offenses during his tenure. His whereabouts had remained unclear, prompting the OSP to seek public assistance locating him.

However, on February 18, 2025, his legal representatives formally notified the OSP that he is currently undergoing medical treatment abroad. He is scheduled to return between May 14 and 30, 2025, following his surgical procedure and recovery period. They further assured the OSP of his commitment to cooperate with the investigation upon his return.

Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin reiterated this development in Parliament, confirming that the former minister is prepared to appear for in-person interrogation.

The OSP had charged Ofori-Atta with offenses related to the Strategic Mobilization-GRA contract, termination of the ECG-BXC contract, payments concerning the National Cathedral project, procurement of ambulances, and utilizing the Tax Refund Account.

While the OSP has accepted the stated return date and adjusted its schedule accordingly, it has warned that failure to return as planned will result in Ofori-Atta being re-listed as a fugitive. The OSP emphasized its commitment to ensuring accountability and vowed to take all necessary legal measures to secure his participation in the probe.
